Drawing on his research carried out in the writing of his books Art Deco Scotland: Design and Architecture in the Jazz Age and Modernist Scotland, Bruce Peter, Professor of Design History at The Glasgow School of Art, will examine the factors affecting the appreciation and conservation of Scottish Art Deco and Modernist buildings. 

He’ll start with a brief history of the journeys these styles have made, from disparagement to affection, and the key developments in the listing of British and Scottish examples. From there, he’ll move on to Scottish case-studies, including the Rothesay Pavilion, the Bon Accord Baths in Aberdeen; to Glasgow’s Leyland Motors Garage, the Lyceum Cinema, the C&A store; Cables Wynd House in Leith, Madras College in St Andrews and Cumbernauld Town Centre.
