Glasgow City Heritage Trust is delighted to announce the launch of its Strategic Plan for 2026–31, backed by renewed investment from both Historic Environment Scotland and Glasgow City Council.

Earlier this year, Historic Environment Scotland confirmed a new five-year funding package for Scotland’s City Heritage Trusts, providing Glasgow City Heritage Trust with long-term funding to continue protecting, celebrating and sustaining the city’s historic environment. This has been complemented by Glasgow City Council’s approval of funding for 2026–27, recognising the important role heritage plays in supporting communities, regeneration and civic pride.

Together, these funding commitments provide a strong foundation for the delivery of our new strategy, which sets out an ambitious vision for Glasgow’s historic environment over the next five years.

Glasgow’s historic buildings and places tell the story of who we are. They shape our neighbourhoods, support local communities, provide homes and workplaces, and give the city its unique character. Yet they also face significant challenges, from deteriorating building fabric and skills shortages to climate change and fuel poverty.

The plan focuses on five key priorities:

• Protecting & Sustaining Glasgow’s Historic Environment through grants, advice and support for historic buildings.
• Connecting People with Place by creating opportunities for people to explore, celebrate and share Glasgow’s stories.
• Supporting Tenement Resilience through practical guidance, training and investment in the buildings that house most of the city’s residents.
• Traditional Skills Leadership by championing the specialist skills needed to care for historic buildings and inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in the sector.
• Heritage & Climate Action by helping traditional buildings become part of the solution to the climate crisis.

Over the next five years, we will continue to invest in Glasgow’s historic environment through grant funding to property owners and communities, while developing new partnerships, projects and resources that increase our impact across the city.

Together, we can ensure Glasgow’s heritage continues to enrich lives, strengthen communities and inspire civic pride for generations to come.
