High above St George’s Cross, a monumental statue of St George & the Dragon tells a tale of Glasgow’s past. Carved in 1897 for the St George’s Co-operative Society, this symbol of civic pride and community was saved from demolition in the 1980s. Dismantled, stored and re-erected in 1988, its railings were salvaged from old public toilets.
Join our Stone Safari to uncover how this artwork transformed from a shop sign to a beloved public monument, democratising Glasgow’s rich history.
