Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Glasgow City Heritage Trust part of Glasgow City Council or the Scottish Government?

No. Glasgow City Heritage Trust is an independent charitable trust, supported by Glasgow City Council and Historic Scotland.

Q: How do I apply for a Building Repair Grant?

Take a look at our Grants page for details of the application procedure.

Q: Do you have a 'priority' system for your grants?

Yes.  As we have limited grants available, we use a prioritisation system to 'score points' for each application we receive; this is in-line with local and national priorities. At present, projects scoring 9 points or above will be taken to the next stage.  Applicants whose projects score 8 points or under would unfortunately be declined and therefore should not apply.  Details of the assessment criteria can be found in our assessment matrix, available on the Grants page.

Q: Do I have to repay any grant I receive from Glasgow City Heritage Trust?

There are clawback conditions applicable if you sell your property within ten years of receiving a grant. Contact Us for more information.

Q: Are all areas in Glasgow eligible for grants?

Glasgow City Heritage Trust generally covers listed and unlisted buildings within the 22 conservation areas of Glasgow and category A and B listed buildings requiring a comprehensive scheme of works outside these areas. To find out if your property is listed and/or falls within one of these conservation areas, please contact us or visit the Glasgow City Council website and enter your address.

Q: How much grant is usually offered for repairs and maintenance?

Each application for a grant will be assessed by Glasgow City Heritage Trust on an individual basis.  We can fund up to a maximum of 40% of the cost of works.  The final decision on whether a grant is awarded and at what level lies with the Trust, and each application is judged individually according to a range of criteria.

Q: I have interior repairs to undertake in my listed building, can you help?

Glasgow City Heritage Trust funds exterior works including windows and external doors. For interior repair works to historic buildings, contact Historic Scotland or Glasgow City Council.

Q: How can I find out more about looking after my historic property?

Have a look at our Links page, where you will find links to funding bodies, conservation organisations and other heritage agencies. Historic Scotland is the government agency responsible for safeguarding the nation's historic environment and has a range of information available to help owners of historic buildings.

Q: I have just completed a conservation project on my historic building. Can I apply to you for a grant retrospectively?

Unfortunately we are unable to assist in funding work which has already been completed.

Q: Glasgow City Heritage Trust awarded me a grant last year for works to my windows. Can I apply again for grants to my doors?

Demand for grants is high and it is unlikely that Glasgow City Heritage Trust will award grants to the same applicant on a repeat basis.
