Wednesday 25th January 2012
5.45pm – 7.45pm
Jeffrey Room, Mitchell Library
Join us on Burns Night to look at the role of libraries in the information age. Glasgow has some outstanding library buildings – thanks largely to a donation from Andrew Carnegie at the turn of the century which paid for 14 to be built across the city. But they were not designed for the digital age. How should these buildings be used and what role should libraries play now that so many people can carry out their own research at home?
Our panel will include Karen Cunningham, Head of Libraries and Cultural Venues for Glasgow Life, Duncan Chappell, rare books and special collections at GSA, Sue John, Enterprise Development Manager from Glasgow Women’s Library, Heather Marshall, Senior Librarian at Glasgow Caledonian University as well as architect and GCHT Trustee Robin Webster.
There is a £3 donation requested for this event. Booking is essential so please call 0141 552 1331 or email info@glasgowheritage.org.uk to reserve your place.
