How can we care for tenements in the 21st century?

Glasgow City Heritage Trust presents the sixth City Talk, regular events looking at issues concerning a living city and the historic environment.

Tenements are synonymous with Glasgow. But can today’s ever-changing patterns of ownership and tenancy safeguard these icons of the city’s heritage in the future?

Tenements offer an ideal and generously proportioned solution to urban living but are the traditions and practices of communal living too idealistic to guarantee their upkeep in modern times? How can well-meaning owners get the best support from existing legislation? Our guest panel including John Gilbert (architect and author of The Tenement Handbook), Lorraine MacDonald (Chair of Property Managers Association of Scotland) Sandra Hunter (Property Lawyer, Brodies LLP) and Jean Charsley (community activist) will discuss the theme. Chaired by Prof Robin Webster, architect and GCHT Trustee.
